Right, OK, nobody panic!
There is a bug somewhere that causes a random boot loop to appear in the ESP32 and strangely I had this with a Stamp the other weekend.
Disconnect everything and leave the controllers unconnected for a while, cold boot the computer and try and flash UIFLow firmware.

I saved a copy of the IP5306_I2C data sheet from a long time ago. In this table, I see the charge current can be set by the CHG_DIG_CTL0 register (see the formula). I would assume the M5stack designers took care of setting the max charge current with that register bits 0 through 4, though I could be wrong.

you could ignore the version notice. just select the core2 device on the setting page will be ok.
1.0.12 was for the Desktop IDE software version.
1.4.5 or 1.6.x was for the UIFlow firmware version.
