Actually, we have done nearly the same thing.
We have connected this module: HopeRF RFM95W to the connectors on the back of the Core2. That works great.
We have no idea why the LoRa module does not work with the Core2. Maybe a SPI conflict somewhere deep in the background, maybe a power issue or maybe, and more likely, we are lacking some understanding.
Anyway, we have decided to use a Proto board, solder the LoRa module on it and place that on the backside of the Core2.
We have to do that for 35 devices, but it is fail save.

Well, strange behaviour is not seldomly caused by strange root causes.
I already explained that after upload, the program seems to be running normal, only the screen stays dark.
After a lot of trial and error, it seems that it is to do with how the software is uploaded. We are using CH9102 or CP210x (not even sure which one). But the reality is that after uploading, poweing off the Core2, the screen seems to function normal. This is repeated behaviour detected with several M5Core2. Probably we need to upgrade one of the driver. Still hesitating about that because on OSX upgrading can be a risky business. Anyway, it appears to be solved (dont understand it btw).

I modified my test program to use internal I2C, did a i2c scan w/o ExtIO2 connected and with it - there seems to be no i2c address conflict.

For me ExtIO2 works either connected to port A or to internal. What I noticed though is that I need to wait (after powering up M5Tab5) for the UIFlow2 screen fully being loaded before running the program.

If I do not wait long enough I occasionally see a crash too.

I can confirm the shark fin like signals on my M5CoreS3. I am no I2C expert, but I think they might be marginal and so maybe just barely working on one M5CoreS3 but not on the other when talking to AXP2101. Maybe a stronger pull-up resistor might help?

BTW: I checked the I2C SCL line on an M5Core2 and it is much more rectangular, e.g. much more like I would expect it.

Yes, that resolved the issue, I am now using the
"M5Stack by M5Stack official 3.2.2 installed " board def.
The entire problem was that my pre-existing code AND the M5Stack Github examples by M5Stack use
#include <M5Stack.h>
instead of M5Unified.

Note: The examples in the newer web based API work fine, just not the old M5Stack official Github.

Ok, it worked finally. At least, I needed to use module_llm.melotts instead of module_llm.tts.

The model specification in tts_config doesn't matter for my case. It picks melotts-en-default somehow automatically even though the default value is melotts_zh-cn.

The module is very unstable when the controller is powered on. It requires several clicks of the reset button until it finally speaks. (The return value of melotts.inference is -97 when it's successful.)

@robski - got it solved, turns out the problem was that i was connecting to usb-c on my laptop, which didn't seem like it should be a problem since the Atom Lite also uses usb-c. But once i changed over to my usb-a port, it's all working fine.

I have tried several examples from both the Arduino & IDF (both updated to the latest) and none of them seem to expose the Tab5 as a usb device:

I can get similar projects working on my ESP32-S3 device without issue..

I'm wondering if anyone has a working example of the Tab5 enumerating as a USB device?

using the latest library versions, e.g. M5GFX 0.2.13 and M5Unified 0.2.8 I can build M5Dial firmware with no error.

@BR123456 The custom block designer seems to work OK, although it would be nice if it supported standalone functions as well as objects.

What I'm having trouble with is figuring out how to actually import the new blocks/code into a project.

I click on the 'Project files +' button, create and save blocks, but I see no way to import the new block into my project. V2.3.6

What am I missing?

In the config I see "Start Mode" is "USB Mode". This means, your device is not connecting to WiFi at startup unless a previously stored program does. Change the mode and try again.

Looking at the image on the specs site, there is no connector on the DP/DN pins however I've tried a 4pin Molex Picoblade and it fits perfectly.
