@teastain I use Arduino IDE, but could easily adapt to whatever IDE or language is needed

It would be nice to have a header to just plug into, but soldering wires sounds like the easiest way to achieve this.
I like the I2C SD Card reader idea, good way to add a card for logging to any M5 project!

Z-Wave uses the 800/900 MHz range, ESP32 uses the 2.4GHz range; the only way to support it is with an accessory product (preferably Grove format so it works with all their products) -
