Green Energy Justice
@Green Energy Justice
Illinois’s first community-owned solar cooperative, the Green Energy Justice Cooperative (GEJC), is pioneering a fair and sustainable energy model built on collective ownership. Founded in 2023 by Blacks in Green, this multiracial, multiclass, intergenerational, and Black & Latinx-led cooperative is driving economic independence and environmental justice across Illinois. With a 9 MW solar installation serving about 1,200 homes, GEJC returns local benefits by keeping jobs, savings, and clean power within communities. Through membership and solar-subscription models—open even to renters—participants share ownership, access discounted ComEd bill credits, and gain a vote in co-op governance. Clean energy for the people, by the people.||Business Address :6431-39 S Cottage Grove Chicago IL 60637 ||
