StepMotor Driver connector 2.54 4P

Hello,
This is not the most technically complicated question you will see, but I am accepting defeat.
I am wanting to use the 2.54 4P connector which attaches the stepper motor to the StepMotor Driver module -
I thought it would be something like pull the orange tabs, put a wire into hole row 1 or 2, and push back the orange tab. But that doesn't seem to work. There is no movement in the orange tabs other than completely pulling them out, and even then there doesn't seem to be a change in the connector.
If anyone could please help by giving me a clue.
